Members of Girl Scout Troop 100 from Immaculate Conception,
Fayetteville-Manlius area attended an afternoon session
at Environmental Laboratory Services, in North Syracuse
and earned a Science Discovery badge. Troop Leader & President
of ELS, Nancy Struzenski together with Mary Catalano and
Betty Ceravalo coordinated this opportunity for the Scouts
through Al Staiti, former President of the Lab. Together
they developed several experiments appropriate for the
Scouts. The session was held November 16. Mr. Staiti discussed
careers for women, and stressed the importance of science,
chemistry and biology for those considering a future in
the science or health care industry. Several experiments
were performed and supervised by the laboratory scientists.
The Scouts received safety glasses and gloves to wear
on the tour of the lab. Mr. Staiti commented that they
asked excellent questions and no doubt there were a few
future science professionals in Girl Scout Troop 100. |
